What we do

The main aim of a Governing Board is to ensure the delivery of a high standard of education for all pupils in its care.

Our Governors are responsible for helping our school provide the best possible education for each and every one of our children. Together with the Headteacher and the Leadership Team the Governing Board lead our school, setting the vision and helping drive the school forward to ensure the best life chances are secured for every child.

Our Governing Board come from various areas of the community and give their time and expertise on a voluntary basis. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated team of people supporting the school community.

Who am I?

My name is Hayley, We moved to Alford in December 2019; my son was already settled in a primary school in the area we had moved from. So, we knew this choice would be very important not only for him but us too.

We started looking around local primary schools and decided that Alford Primary was the school for him and us, as a parent I was impressed with the welcome, friendly, and informative staff we met on our visit and it was made nicer by being shown around by the headteacher who had lots of information and engaged my son in the visit, asking him questions and allowing him to give his response.

I was also impressed with the children of the school and the impeccable behaviour they showed whilst we visited, they interacted with my child on our visit, by asking his name, smiling, and saying hello to him, it was helpful to meet some of the teachers teaching in their classes and really gave us an insight of the practices within the school.

My son said he chose Alford Primary as he liked the classes, teachers and children and said he felt like he would make lots of friends there as everyone was very kind to him when we visited.

Since then and to this day my son has come on leaps and bounds and yes, he’s made plenty of good friends! And is also engaging and working hard and to educational levels for his age.

I would highly recommend Alford Primary as a first-choice school, either at the start of reception or as an in-year admission. The school really have their children, parents, and community at the heart of school life.

Why am I a Governor?

I decided to apply to be a governor as I wanted to support the school, children, and their families in the area.
I also felt and knew that the school works extremely hard to support families and young people and they ensure that the school can be the very best place for the young people, and I wanted to be part of that success and future going forward.

What do I do as a Governor?

My background with working in education and with families allows me to support the school with its visions and future success and support the governing board to ensure the best possible education is provided for all children.
I am also a parent so understand some of the issues and pressures that both schools and parents can face.
Particularly in these challenging times such as those that we are facing at the moment. My School plan priorities are safeguarding and SEND/LAC.
