Some thoughts on my time at Alford Primary- I have extremely fond memories of being at Alford Primary, I especially remember being really sad about having to leave in year six knowing the fun of primary was going to end. I felt very much a member of the school and loved taking part in the talent shows, as well as sports days and school trips. I remember enjoying a day trip to Gainsborough Old Hall when we were studying the tudors in History, and then Caythorpe Court for the week in year six. I was very lucky with many of my teachers there over the years, and they set wonderful examples of teaching styles which were encouraging and exciting for students. As I have grown up and learned new skills and job roles etc I have discovered that teaching in general is such an art form. With a lot of skills or the passing on of knowledge I have found it's so important to have a fantastic and encouraging teacher, and it makes all the difference in the learning curve of the student when the teacher is attentive and patient.

My academic pathway- I went to secondary school at QEGS in Alford and then onto QEGS in Horncastle to take my A Levels. I always knew I wanted to take Art for my A Levels. I also took Textiles and Media Studies and really enjoyed the creativity for each subject, I had great teachers for all of these subjects and the Art room at the school was stunning and large with huge floor to ceiling windows and tall ceilings. I ended up spending some break times in that Art room when it was free as it was such a sanctuary for me to do my coursework. My results were AAB and I went straight to Uni at Sheffield Hallam to study Fine Art. I was excited to get out of Lincolnshire and live in a city for the first time. It definitely took lots of getting used to. My course was more conceptual than craft based, which I struggled with. My aim from those years of studying was to make Artwork to the best of my ability, and I absolutely managed that for my final year degree show. For this I made 4 large coil built earthenware pots inspired by Grayson Perry. I hand decorated them in underglaze colours depicting different places I had visited in the latest year. After finishing uni I wanted to keep learning about ceramics and pottery so I went to work for a potter in Hertfordshire where I helped her produce her porcelain salt glaze ceramics. It was here that I improved hugely with my throwing skills and had a taste of teaching small classes. After 10 months I came back to Lincolnshire and my parents were very generous in letting me use a room in the house as my studio. I bought my own kiln and wheel, and started developing my ceramics work and style. I got a job at Oxcombe pottery as a technician and then a few months later became a teacher there running beginners classes. I set up a website for my ceramics work in summer 2020 whilst on furlough. I used this time to work on my little ceramics business, taking commissions and creating stock for my website. After making my ceramics solidly for the last 2 years I decided I wanted a change of scene, so I am now doing a summer season of work at a beach hotel in Cornwall.
