Sound of the day!
Today's sound of the day is 'ar'!
Use your child’s ‘Digraph and Trigraph Sound Mat’ to practise this sound at home. Each phoneme has an action to go with it. Actions and pictures are great way to support the children with learning new sounds.
When we say 'ar', we pretend that we are dealing a pack of cards.
You can support your child with using this sound to practise reading and writing simple words. Don’t forget that your child can use their word writing Steps for Success to support them too. Here are some word ideas to help you out…
ar - card, car, farm, bark, barn, yard
Tricky words of the day!
Today's tricky words are 'into' and 'all'.
Why not practise reading these words using 'Look', 'Cover' and 'Say'! Show your child the tricky word, then cover it up, show them again and encourage them to read it from memory. Repeat as many times as you need to.
Why not see if you can find these words in a story book at home!
Here's is today's 'Whizzy Writing' picture!
Encourage your child to use his or her sound and tricky word knowledge to write the following sentence in their exercise book...
'The big cow and the goat.'
Don’t forget that your child can use their sound mat, sentence writing Steps for Success and finger spaceman to support them too.
Your child might also want to extend their writing further by writing a second sentence! Can you think of a name for the goat and a the cow?
Here is a video link to watch the Numberblocks episode 'Ten's Place'. Click on the video link below to watch this episode with your child at home.
This episode will support your child with learning all about tens and units. Understanding how the numbers 11 to 20 are made up of tens and units is a really important concept. For example, the number 14 is made up of 1 ten and 4 units and the number 18 is made up of 1 ten and 8 units.
Have a go at the activity attached. Encourage your child to count how many tens and units there. If you are able to print then your child could cut and stick the answers or if not then counting and saying the number aloud is fine.
